Hello Colleagues,

I am in the process of restoring an International variant of this model, and would greatly appreciate it if any member could advise of the exact length of the "wellenschalter shaft" as it emerges from the right side chassis. If I am unable to locate a replacement shaft, I shall remove the piece and have a small "stub" welded onto the end.

Apparently the knob and shaft were broken quite some years ago. As a result, it sat idly for more than 30 years before I recently won it on ebaY.

The seller also had no rear panel, and the klangfarben/bandbreitenregler knob on the left rear side of the cabinet is also missing.

The radio is presently playing with some problems, since a very early technician was not able to replace the EFM11  and he created an adapter to install a small 6C5 triode amplifier in the space for the tuning eye.

I will "retrofit" the eye with a NEW EFM11 . . .after correcting circuit mods.

I will attach some photos of the dial glass to support the forum posting by Herr Jens Dehne

Respectfully,

Dear Robert
According the scale (only) you may be right that this is a real export model - or a at least a variant. Did you check the naming on the rear too? I also wonder about the power supply.

I think we should create this model page first if it is the case. If technically exactly the same then some wording in the notes could be sufficient - but Jens should decide which way he wants to point out the export model.

I wish you good luck anyway for your not very easy "retrofit" work ;-)

Dear Ernest and Jens,

Thank you both so very much for your assistance. I continue to research the "L&H" identification for certain skalenscheibes of the Graetz 51W productions. I am intrigued by the possibility that some limited numbers of the lovely "art deco style dial glass" model may have been assembled by the combined efforts of Lowe and Halske - similar to the S&H (Siemens and Halske) Marloffstein.

The only model identification data on my version is found on the right rear corner - a small yellow decal which reads as follows (see the attached photo):

Aufgert Leistung Normsisch 55W. Sparung 92W
   GRAETZ       51W
   Radio            Gerätnummer
                        L845060

The power supply appears to be the original installed netztrafo providing the following voltage selections and current protection:
110-125-150-220-240 volts and  2 small (5x20mm) fuses with ratings of 0,7A and 0,35A respectively.

Is it possible that the ID prefix letter L may refer to the "licensee" who may have been authorized for temporary production of some pre-War Graetz models?

Respectfully,
Robert

NOTE: Virtually every component on the underside of the chassis is original -  nearly every axial capacitor is made by ALWAYS  -  I do not recall ever seeing that manufacturer name on the small parts of my German radios.  Attachments:

Hallo Robert,

Viel Erfolg beim Restaurieren!

Jens Dehne

. . with gute Aufnahme.

Robert

Greetings and many thanks Jens,

I have translated and read all of your reply. The Graetz production history is very interesting, and I am very happy to own the beautiful model. The circuits are almost identical to those which are found in the SABA 455WK model from 1938, and it also has the "art deco" dial glass.

I shall place a copy of this information into the data brochure which I prepare for every radio which I restore.

From the visual appearance of my 51W version and the details you describe, I can understand that some limited production of models would appear as soon as possible after the production of armament items were completed.

I have noticed the several different part numbers on the dial glasses depicted in the model data photos. On my receiver the Normal power and then Economy is still operating according to the schematic - with the Sparungschalter providing either 198 volts or 354 volts.

The receiver presently functions well on the KWII band, and last night I was listening to the English news transmissions from  Radio Ukraine International and from Romania within the 41 and 59 meter wavelength . . . .with good reception. Unfortunately, I must use the small pliers to move the shaft of the waveband.

Thank you again for the dimension of the fractured shaft outside the chassis. If you are unable to locate a good used wellenschalter shaft, then perhaps it may be repaired or even strengthened.

With friendly greetings,
Robert
