Hello everybody:

I have a radio very similar to this Grundig 7038. The cabinet, front panel of the radio, record player and reel to reel unit looks equal, but checking the chassis, It looks a bit different to the Majestic 7038. I can see 7 tubes only, are missing some IF cans, the ferrite anthena and others.

The label says:  GRUNDIG Radiogram 70....  Unfortunatelly the last numbers are missing because the paper label is broken.

I was looking it for in the Grundig list of RMorg without good results.

I will really appreciate any help to find information about this radio.

Thank you very much and kind regards,

José Bustos

Hello Jose,

the image quality is not too good - but if you have a close look the third digit is identifiable as a 3. The 4th digit is one of 0, 3, 5, or 8. Any suffixes (which are equally important) are of course lost.

Given the similarity in cabinet and chassis, a good guess is to take it as a 7038 - mind you there are differences in those sets, depending on the target market. For instance the US version has BC, 2 SW and FM up to 108 MHz, while the domestic versions (see for instance similar Konzertgerät 4067) had LW, BC, SW and FM up to 100 MHz (channel 43). Many export models for e.g. Spain did not have FM at all.

Assuming the set in question (sadly you don't show a picture of the dial scale!) has no FM, then the ECC85 and EAA91 would not be needed - therefore reducing the tube count to 7.

Either way, if you want to create with model, a note has to be made that we do not know the model number suffix (like 7038/WE or similar).

Kind regards,
Mark

Hello Mark:

I received today a clear picture of the dial scale. I can see the radio does not have FM.

I am enclosing the picture.

The mistery continues, How can I find this model on the RMorg list?

Thank you very much for your soon answer and kind regards,

José

Dear José,

you can't - you'd have to create the model entry first. I am fairly certain that this is a 7038 - however there remains some doubt, which will have to explained in the notes of the model.

Kind regards
Mark
