I have one of these supplied by Headquarter & General Supplies in London (UK) in original shipping box dated 1st August 1959. The performance is abysmal - are they all like this? Can just hear a local station after careful fiddling with the volume/reaction and tuning controls. Should it have a reasonable performance?

I think you know that the OMEGA Trabant is a simle TRF receiver with regeneraton. There is a 1-AM-circuit (MW) only.
I hope thr radio ist in the right operationel condition!? Perhaps you can compare the sensivity with another simple 1-circuit-radio of your collection e.g.a "Boy's Radio" (2 Transistors) from Japan.
BTW: The use of the rgeneration knob is in principal a little bit tricky.
And there is an external antenna jack on the right side of the housing. Perhaps you try to improve the receive power by connecting an external longer wire.
Much success!

Thank you! The reaction is obviously working OK as it bursts into oscillation if advanced too far. I will try an external antenna out of interest. It doesn't actually matter to me whether it works well or not, as we have around 300 various antique radios, so lots of them to listen to! I just wondered if they were all insensitive. I guess they were, just having a couple of germanium transistors for amplification.
