I bought this old equipment in Germany. Seller says me that it is a galena made by Rohde and Schwarz. I don’t believe this; in spite of this it may be possible to do a galena with this. I have already done this. I don’t know if it is an instrument done with an R&S dial by a curious or it is an early internal Lab R&S equipment.

It seems to be a wave meter. It covers the frequency range of 150 kHz to 60 MHz in 5 bands. Front panel is made of bakelite or ebonite, 4 mm of thickness. Band switcher seems to be specifically done for this instrument (it is not a commercial type). In front panel there is engraved “ Type FM1  App 1131”

Anybody can help me providing information about this?

Best Regards

Moisés

Dear Moisés,

your instrument, called Absorptionsfrequenzmesser FM1, looks like has been manufactured by the  German company Steeg & Reuter. In some minor details your instrument differs from the pictured one in the model page, e.g. the range switch.

But on the other hand, the PTE logo and München 9 is a hint to Rohde and Schwarz. Maybe an early adopted model before comparable own models were released ... Please show a good picture from the whole manufacturer's designation round the tuning knob.

The similar Rohde & Schwarz instrument: Resonanzfrequenzmesser WAN.

Thanks,
Bernhard

Hello, Moisés:
I am very ancient (92 years old) and I no longer dominate the English language neither the functioning of a colleague of Radiomuseum (for my one honor!), but I consider myself outside. But if an opinion more is valuable for you, there is no doubt he tries of of a absortion wavemeter as tell Bernhard. I cannot tell you more.
A cordial greeting from Spain.

Dear Nagel

Here is the picture of the dial.

Now I have no doubt that this is a Rohde & Schwartz equipment.

It is extremely similar to the Steege and Reuter equipment.

It has written in fron panel Type FM1  App 1131. The number App is diferent from the one written in the Steege and Reuter equipment.

I include a photo of the band switch  that seems diferent from the switch of Sttege and Reuter.

The original equipment seems to be  the Rohde and Schwarz version WAN B4301, see RMorg,   but the Steege and Reuter equipment have the same architecture. Perhaps the lab version of Rohde and Schwartz was produced to outside by Steege and Reuter, and the two companies agreed to share the equipment, and there is also a version with the brand R&S. I got this one paying € 50 this year in the Friedrichshafen  Amateur Radio Mess.

Many Thanks

Moisés

Dear Bernhard and Fernando.

Today I disassembled the R&S equipment with the objective of  cleaning it.  Under The Rohde & Schwarz logo I found the original logo of Dr Steege & Reuter from Bad Homburg (Germany). Perhaps Dr Rohde and Schwarz collaborate with Drs Steege & Reuter in the design of the absorption meter since R&S have designed before a similar equipment. The logo indicates that the equipment was fabricated in January of 1943.

Many thanks.
