The search engine on my Freiburg oscillates around each station and the tuning knob constantly moves backwards and forwards unless I turn the auto search off. I have cleaned all the sets of conacts behind the control buttons, but the probem still persists.

Any idea what the probem might be please?

Bryan

Dear Bryan,is it really an oscillating  or is it a shiver / vibration forward and back ? The automatic kepts the radio optimal tuned and to avoid a disturbance by the mechanical parts it always vibrates a little bit forth and back around the station. This should have no audible or variantion in tuning (magic eye) effect. Otherwise it is a failure of the system.

Dear Rudiger,

It's an oscillation, rather than a shiver, but I think I know what the problem is now. I thought by drawing a piece of paper impregnated with Deoxit through the contacts, they would be sufficiency clean to work - but having gone back and checked them all again with my Avo, some are not all making contact  when they should be.

So - tomorrow  I'm taking out the switch unit and systematically cleaning and adjusting each set until they work properly!!

Any ideas about the best way to clean the contacts? Very fine wet and dry sandpaper??

Many thanks,

Bryan

Yes, fine sandpaper is ok. In Germany the numbers are 600, 900 or very fine 1200. If you have to use contacts spray which chemically solves the oxide coating of the contacts you should always clean them with a neutral solvent afterwards. Otherwise they will corrode very fast due to residues of the contact spray.
