schaub: Goldsuper W46 (W 46) push-buttons

Also about Goldsuper W46 do you please tell me what  these push-buttons letters mean?

I presume that TA means  record player. But RU ? and PA?

Hi Mário,

first, TA (TonAbnehmer) means indeed the af input for record player. An often used word is Pick-Up.

RU stands for RauschUnterdrückung, in english we know the descriptions Muting or noise [static] suppressor. Action of this button switches a small positive voltage via contact R7/R8 to the ratio detector electrolytic cap which leads the EABC80 diodes in the conducting area. The noise when tuned between stations will be lowered. A tuned FM station will "overwrite" this small DC current with a higher negative voltage and normal operation of the ratio detector is now given.

The third button PA means PeilAntenne [Peilen = bearing of a direction], it stands for the rotary ferrite rod antenna for MW/LW reception.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. The technical explanation was also very welcome.

Nevertheless I didn't understood yet what is the function of PA  , because there is already a button, behind the volume button, which moves the ferrite antenna 360 degrees. There is a scale from 1 to 29 to control the movement.

When I press the PA button I do not notice any difference. What does PA changes ?

the thing is simple..;-) The rotary ferrite antenna is always in action as the pretuned circuit for MW/LW reception.

AM Antenna input circuit of Schaub Goldsuper W46

For MW/LW, contact K17-K19 is closed as shown. The external antenna is then connected via P17-P16 to the coupling coils L14 and L16 of the ferrite rod antenna. We use here both antennas, not only the external one. By pressing button PA, P17 shorts with P18 (ext. ant. now grounded) and the feritte antenna leaves alone for reception. This is the reason why you don't notice any difference. As long as no external AM antenna is connected to the set! Please try again with some 30 meters of a long wire antenna...

That was a quite cheap solution for coupling the ext. antenna, because separate pretuned circuits for MW/LW are not necessary in this design.

Now the "thing"  :-) is understandable. An external antenna changes it completly. The difference is notable.
