Dear members,
I have just received a Seibt Roland 5 radio in very good apparent condition. My question relates to the cabinet style in relation to the chassis number on the Seibt identification plate - Roland 5 Nr5005755.
The cabinet is the tall rectangular style as depicted for the model 53L (53W).
Photos will be submitted shortly.
The tuning condenser is the 4-gang unit, and the chassis appears identical to the 5L shown in Mod.-ID = 5755
Respectfully,
Robert

Gentlemen,
I sincerely apologize for being so uninformed regarding the Seibt Roland 5 radio that I am restoring. The id plate is simply stamped Roland 5 with no other letters.
I have taken many photos from every angle and the unit appears to be "unaltered". I am still confused regarding the rear controls (inputs and outputs) for the receiver. I understand most of the controls except the Err and possibly the "T" inputs.
Is it possible that the T inputs refers to the possibility of the "telephonic - cable radio" feature that was incorporated into the special Biennophone 593 model that Mr Erb "introduced me to" and explained several years ago???
Respectfully,
Robert

Seibt Roland 5W
22.Aug.06 21:00

Dear Robert,
I think it is a 5W (AC) chassis. The combination with a speaker cabinet remains unidentified to me.
As far as I can see from different schematics the letters mean the following:
Err = Erregung =excitation =Speaker field
T = Telephone output; using headphones (e.g. for DXing)
one can switch off the speaker by the toggle switch L (aus - ein)
Gr = Grammophone = pickup
The best matching schematic seems to be www.radiomuseum.org/protect-path.cfm
where Hörer = T and Feld = Err
Tel and speaker switch seem to be particular for the 5W. They are not indicated at the 5L.
Also is the 4 gang condenser (input band filter) pointing to the 5W. The 5L has only 3 tuning cond's.
The 5W is also called "5 Roland Spezial" (Lange - Nowitsch). But the naming is not consistent in the different sources (catalog, schematics compilations).
Good luck for the restoration,
Sincerely,
Kobi

Dear Kobi,
Thank you so very much - I would have guessed Gr for the Grammophone and the toggle switch L for the speaker On-Off.
However, the T for the headphones, and Err for the excitation field I could not recall.
Would I be correct to presume that the schematics may have little or no voltage references? I have performed a series of readings for the plates and filaments to get some idea as to the condition of the receiver.
I will submit shortly some items that I have, and submit data for the electromagnetic speaker in the cabinet.
Respectfully,
Robert

Well, I am sorry, but the whole "family" Roland 5 needs to be tidied up.
The cabinet models with speaker always had an L suffix.
But the schematic collections did not care for cabinet versions, only for the (chassis) circuitry. That makes the matter so difficult, since we are listing models, not sole chasses. The number is not of great help. We have no comparison.
I am working on it.
Cross fingers for a successful solution,
Best regards,
Kobi
