Hi

There is a lot that seems strange with this radio. The original scale seem to have been replaced with some sort of homebrew version and there would hardly be enough room for a recordchanger if the original chassis would still be intact.

It must have been tampered with a bit.

The original modell is called Luxorett and i found it in the brochure for 1950-51.

Luxorett - South African Version Perhaps ?

Hi

Many thanks for your post. I assume the differences must in the dial scale (etc.) must be due to its being a version for the South African market. This is quite common - the scales of many old sets here have references to long defunct South African stations. The set has had one owner and there was absolutely no evidence of any tampering.

The BSR autochanger sits lower in the cabinet and there is a sloping metallic "fairing" at the front so that the dial scale can fit. This autochanger is smaller in plan than the one in your picture. The lid may be slightly taller.

Regards - Bryce

Hi

Your theory about this being a version for the South African market seem to be fully valid. I have checked a bit about what is written about Luxor and the foreign markets. Fact is that Luxor started their own factory in a town called Springs in South Africa. Production started in october 1951 so this radio must be from their earliest production. Luxor left South Africa in the mid sixties but there is no record about what happened to the factory.

It would be most interesting with more facts about this radio. Please post the model to RMorg as a South African produced version of the Luxorett. (Or even better: under its own specific typecode if it can be found).

I think I have an ex of this radio in bad condition somewhere. I shall try to find it and post some photos.

Kind regards - Anders/soda
