Die Kaiser-Wilhelm-Brücke ist das weit über die Stadtgrenzen hinaus bekannte Wahrzeichen der Stadt Wilhelmshaven.
Mit einer Spannweite von 159 m und einer lichten Höhe von 9 m war sie bei ihrer Entstehung die größte Drehbrücke Europas – sie ist es auch heute wieder, da eine vergleichbare Brücke 1944 demontiert wurde.
Die Kaiser-Wilhelm-Brücke ist funktional eine Doppeldrehbrücke und gehört statisch als Zügelgurtbrücke zur Familie der Hängebrücken. Sie besteht aus zwei selbständig drehbaren gleicharmigen Brückenteilen. Von den zwei stählernen, genieteten Fachwerkpylonen schwingen die Zügelgurte ab und tragen über vertikale Aufhängungen die beidseitig auskragenden Fahrbahnen. Die Drehpylone werden mit Zahnrädern aus der schrägen Querfuge in die Brückenmitte gedreht. |
