Acquaintance with the exhibits of the Museum of the History of Communications, located in the Sibirtelecom building, begins already in the elevator, while you rise from the first to the fourth floor. Here for many years the old Soviet payphone has been “living”.

The museum exposition had to be replenished with communication devices, not only preserved in storage facilities and by experienced signalmen, but also turning to collectors for help. For example, Viktor Alexandrovich bought a copy of the first phone created by the American company Bella Black more than 100 years ago from a Tomsk collector for 5,000 rubles. For such an exhibit today, when an ordinary cell phone costs the same, this is not such a high price, the museum director admits. In addition, according to Viktor Alexandrovich, the museum houses many spare parts, you would never easily find any collection of spares as comprehensive as these in modern shops.

But there are visitors who themselves offer money for relics. At the present time, when it is difficult to imagine how people generally lived without a telephone, it is even more difficult to imagine that with his appearance, conversations lasted a maximum of five minutes. But before 1948, when the first automatic telephone exchange appeared in Tomsk and the second in Siberia, the time of the conversation often depended on the telephone operators, sovereign of the switches, who could disconnect the conversation at any time.

During a tour of the communications museum, you can not only listen to interesting stories about the work of telephone operators, but try yourself in this profession. By the way, all exhibits are operational and can be tested in practice.

 In addition to telephony, the exposition shows the development of telegraph, radio and television. Here you can see with your own eyes a copy of the same wireless receiver that Alexander Popov and one of the first mechanical TVs created in 1895.
 Today, the museum’s exposition is represented by 2,300 objects of communication, about which the creator and keeper of the museum Victor Maltsev enthusiastically tells interesting stories.

Знакомство с экспонатами Музея истории связи, находящегося в здании «Сибирьтелекома», начинается уже в лифте, пока поднимаешься с первого на четвертый этаж. Здесь на протяжении многих лет «живет» старый советский таксофон. Пополнять экспозицию музея приходилось аппаратами связи не только сохранившимися в складских помещениях и у бывалых связистов, но и обращаясь за помощью к коллекционерам. К примеру, копию первого телефона созданного американской компанией «Белла-Блэк» более 100 лет назад Виктор Александрович купил у томского коллекционера за 5000 рублей. Для такого экспоната в сегодняшние дни, когда обычный сотовый стоит столько же, это не такая уж и высокая цена, признается директор музея. К тому же запчастей и деталей для его создания, по словам Виктора Александровича, в современных магазинах днем с огнем не сыщешь. Но бывают посетители, которые сами предлагают деньги за реликвии. В нынешнее время, когда сложно представить, как люди вообще жили без телефона, еще сложнее представить, что с его появлением разговоры длились, максимум, пять минут. А ведь до 1948 года, когда появилась первая в Томске и вторая в Сибири АТС, время разговора зачастую зависело от телефонисток-властительниц коммутаторов, которые в любой момент могли разъединить разговор. Во время экскурсии по музею связи можно не только послушать интересные истории о работе телефонисток, но попробовать себя в этой профессии. Кстати, все экспонаты действующие и их можно испытать на деле. Помимо телефонии экспозиция показывает развитие телеграфа, радио и телевидения. Здесь воочию можно увидеть копию того самого беспроводного приемника, который в 1895 году создал Александр Попов и один из первых механических телевизоров. Сегодня экспозиция музея представлена 2300 предметами связи, о которых с упоением рассказывает интересные истории создатель и хранитель музея Виктор Мальцев.
