During the late 1920s and early 1930s many portable radio receivers relied upon optimum positioning and orientation for best reception. Users often had to repeatedly lift and rotate their sets while tuning stations.
Benjamin Electric Ltd. addressed this problem with the Benjamin Turntable, a compact rotating stand that simplified directional adjustment of portable receivers. The design combined a ball-bearing turntable with folding legs that not only enhanced portability but also elevated the receiver from the ground. Contemporary reviewers considered the improvement in convenience and reception sufficient to recommend the accessory to portable-set enthusiasts.
