  • Notes
  • The Codan Type 6924B is an upgraded variant of the landmark 6924 series HF SSB transceiver, The 6924 series became the backbone of remote HF communications across the Australian Outback, the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) network, Papua New Guinea, and isolated field sites worldwide.

    Circuit Features & Construction

    • Frequency & Band Expansion: Unlike the base 6924 model (which capped coverage at 10 MHz, the 6924B revision extended high-frequency operational coverage up to 16.0 MHz using 10 channel crystal positions.
    • Solid-State RF Architecture: The unit features a fully solid-state broadband PA (Power Amplifier) delivering 25 Watts PEP. It includes automatic SWR and over-current protection circuitry to safeguard the final output transistors against antenna mismatch or open-circuit operation.
    • Power Efficiency: Engineered specifically for remote off-grid operation via battery or solar charging setups, the receiver draws minimal idle current (approx 100  mA, making it ideal for continuous station monitoring.
    • Modulation Capabilities: Provides upper sideband (USB) voice transmission (A3J) alongside compatible AM (A3H), allowing seamless inter-operation with legacy double-sideband AM networks during the mid-1970s transition period to all-SSB mandates.

This model was the evolutionary successor to the base 1969/1970 6924 series.
