In October 1947, the U.S. military government in Japan ordered increased production of superhets. Until then, Japanese radios had been almost exclusively single- or dual-circuit straight-through receivers (TRF). After the development of a suitable mixer tube and a double diode-triode, the first standard superhets, such as the device described here, came onto the market at the end of 1948.
