  • Selenium Rectifier for 135VDC source

Silicon diode in reverse bias serves as variable capacitor in the local oscillator to take AFC (Automatic Frequency Control) control voltage from the FM ratio detector. AFC control can be disabled with front panel switch for first tuning in a station, then turned on to prevent station drift. If tuning is attempted with AFC on, the weakest stations may be overtaken by strong nearby stations. Very stable local oscillator hardly needs AFC.
