  • Notes
  • The NAGRA DSP is a dual channel audio expander that matches the compression done in the NAGRA SNST miniature tape recorder. NAGRA DSP and SNST were designed in 1977. The Nagra SNST compress the amplitude of signals in order to increase the signal to noise ratio. The rule of compression is a square root type; 60 dB of input signal level variation originates in the recorder output 30 dB of variation). NAGRA DSP will recover the 60 dB of range of signal level.

The SNST recorder was designed for surveillance where recording of low levels of audio is very important. The recorded tapes can be read on the recorder but the audio level is compressed. The NAGRA DSP unit includes the expanders (Left and Righ)  that complement the compressors included in NAGRA SNST. Using both units (SNST and DSP) it is possible to obtain stereo audio with high quality. Anyway, for true HI-FI audio recordings is preferable to use the NAGRA SNST-R, a extremely rare recorder dedicated to collectors, made in 1999 to commemorate the success of the spy professional miniature recorders (SN series).

There are two Line amplifiers (Left and Right) connected to two output terminals (Jack monophonic).

The NAGRA DSP is assembled in a beautiful box made of brushed aluminum (front panel) and the remaining box is painted with aluminum hammered ink.

Recommended power supply is a set of 8 voltaic cells, type AA with 1.5 V each. There is a battery compartment in back of DSP whose lid is made in transparent acrylic glass.   To work without batteries, there is an AC adapter (NAGRA DSPA) that can be connected to the contacts of batteries.

NAGRA DSP includes a loudspeaker and a monophonic power amplifier (0,5 W) that can be used by the Left or the Right channel of the Line amplifiers.

NAGRA DSP is very rare, comparatively to the recorder NAGRA SNST because in surveillance, to read SNST tapes one unity can be used with several tape recorders.

DSP unit also is usable with the non stereo miniature recorders (SN series), using only one DSP channel.
