  • The model I38-A amplifier, pictured above, is the most powerful single amplifier in the Lafayette line. It is especially well suited for use wherever high power combined with high quality performance is required. Suggested applications include installations in airports, athletic stadiums, race tracks and in multi-speaker systems. The entire power stage, including power supply, is housed on a single steel chassis and is provided with a panel for standard 19" rack mounting.

Installations of the type mentioned above require a relatively high USABLE power output. By usable power output we mean the actual power that can be transmitted to the final reproducers (loud speakers), and since a great majority of systems use a 500 ohm line, only this rating is of any importance. The power output of the 138-A amplifier, into a 500 ohm line, is a full 100 watts. In addition, harmonic content at 100 watts output is only 3% indicating exceptionally good design.

The circuit consists of a single push-pull parallel stage using eight type 46 tubes. The use of these low cost tubes in place of the high-priced transmitting types makes this amplifier one of the least expensive to operate on the market today. Quality, however, has not been sacrificed: components are the finest that modern engineering can provide. An oversized output transformer, especially designed for this particular amplifier, handles the peak output with remarkable efficiency. A pair of 83's (mercury vapor rectifiers) delivers the necessary high voltage through a well designed filter circuit that includes a Variactor filter reactor and high voltage electrolytics.

Model 138-A Lafayette 100-watt amplifier, complete with tubes, less cabinet. Panel for rack mounting. Dimensions: 19" wide, 12" deep. 10.5" high overall. For 110 volts. 50-60 cycles A.C.
