  • Anotaciones
  • Wow and flutter measurement is used on audio taperecorders and players, and other analog recording and reproduction devices with rotary components (e.g. movie projectors, turntables (vinyl recording), etc.) This measurement quantifies the amount of 'frequency wobble' (caused by speed fluctuations) present in subjectively valid terms.

Measurement is usually made using a 3 kHz tone for CCIR and 3.15 kHz tone for DIN played back on the device being measured, a frequency chosen because it is high enough to give good resolution, but low enough not to be affected by drop-outs and high-frequency losses.

This meter has the capability of recording a 3 kHz signal (back panel output) onto a tape drive to play back for measurement of wow & flutter.

Measurement of Drift is also significant to determine the stability of speed variation of the mechanical device being tested.

A scope and a chart recorder can be attached (rear connectors) for a visual record of the subject being tested.

Many audible issues can be traced to be the fault of either one of these items. Knowing if the mechanical part of the reproducing device is at fault or not can shorten the troubleshooting time considerably. A simple belt replacement in a turntable for slow wow issue, or replacing the pinch roller of a tape deck for a flutter can often cure a problem.
