  • Notes
  • Precision heterodyne frequency meter designed to measure or radiate radio-frequency impulses between 125 kHz and 20 MHz. Portable, self-contained, used mainly to calibrate field radio receivers and transmitters by direct comparison with the crystal-calibrated variable frequency oscillator of the instrument. Frequency readings provided by a calibration book. In 1941-1945, there were 25 different BC-221 models produced with suffix letters A, B, C, D, E, F, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, T, AA, AC, AE, AF, AG, AH, AJ, AK and AL. Each model letter denoted a different military order and(or) different manufacturer - Allen D. Cardwell, Bendix Radio, Philco, Rauland or Zenith Radio. All of the BC-221 models were similar as far as basic operation was concerned, but there were many differences in the mechanical arrangement of the cabinets and controls as well as in electrical circuit design. Supplied with wooden or aluminum-alloy metal cabinet. Required P-18, P-20 or HS-30 headset. Sample Dimensions, Valves and Weight are given for model BC-221-AK of Philco in a wooden cabinet.
