  • Wireless Set No. 48 Mark I is a military portable manpack transceiver intended primarily for short range communications.
    Frequency range 6.0-9.0 MHz, modes AM radiotelephony or CW, RF output power 250 mW.
    The sender, receiver, rod aerial and "battle" battery (150 + 3 V) are all fitted in one case, which is equipped with straps to allow it to be carried on a man's back. Ground or vehicle use also possible, the set can be powered by an external static battery or a hand cranked generator for this use.
    The set has some similarities with the English made Wireless Set. No. 18, but it has been constructed and manufactured in the United States after 1942 and has been delivered under the "Lend Lease Act" to the British and Allied armed forces.
    According to Meulstee, the set found extensive use in South East Asia.
