  • MX 80 is a professional multi track tape recorder working 1 inch or 2  inch tape width. There are machines with 8, 16 and 24 tracks.  High (H) tape speeds are  15 ips or 30 ips and low tape speed is 7.5 ips or 15 ips. MX-80-8H  is a machine with 8 tracks and High tape speed; MX-80-24 H is is a machine with 24 tracks and high tape speed. Machines with 24 tracks uses 2 inch width  tapes. Machines with 16 tracks may have option of 1 inch or 2 inch tape. All machines accept NAB Hub with reels of 10 1/2 inch. MX80 can be configured by switches to have available 2 from 3 tape speed combinations.  Each channel is a complete recorder in a PCB, comprising record, play, erase and bias circuitry. MX-80 uses Dolby HX- PRO in each audio channel. Each channel have an analogue  VU meter with two LEDs one indicating the peak of signal on the channel and another that indicates the status of the channel (record/play, etc.). Each channel can be configured as play or record mode. There are 26 modes of operation of the machine.

MX-80 is driven by 3 big motors: 2 motors are DC servo controlled for driving the reels and the capstan motor is a direct drive crystal controlled servo motor.

MX-80 uses 3 heads with 8, 16 or 24 channels (erase, record and play) mounted in a head block that can be interchanged preserving the head azimuth alignment.

Frequency response (15 IPS) is  40 Hz - 22 kHz (+/-3dB) measured at 0 VU and at 15 ips is 40 Hz - 20 kHz (+/-3dB) measured at  0 VU.

Signal to noise ratio SNR unweight is about 60 dB.
    Standard 19 inch rack mountable
Serial and parallel ports for sync control
Remote control available: CB140 for machines with 16 or 24 channels and CB151 for machines with 8 recording channels.
