  • The RQ-222 is a model for the US (110V AC only), and there were two versions made: RQ-222AS and RQ-222DAS. The RQ-222 has several features that were unusual for a portable cassette recorder at the time: a built-in condenser microphone, a battery condition/recording level meter, a tape counter, and an electronically speed-controlled motor in the tape transport. It is called an 'IC' unit, but, like other Panasonic early 'IC' sets, it does not use ICs in the usual sense; the 'ICs' are actually miniature PCB assemblies sealed in plastic enclosures. There were also two versions of the carrying case; this one is the earlier 'slide-in' carrying case. The later version of the carrying case completely enclosed the recorder and had a snap-out flap for cassette access.
