    There is an interesting component in this radio; there are connections for external aerial and earth, which is not unusual for radios of his era but between the terminals inside the radio there is a small neon bulb. This is obviously to provide a parh to earth for an static or incipient lightning strike. As there is no resistor present, the neon would conduct if the voltage difference exceeded about 90 volts. The neon is shown as B1 (position S2 on the schematic).
