  • Notes
  • The Astor 5-valve broadcast model FEU is the evolution of the Astor 525.  When Pye took over RCNZ they took over all the current models as well - and it appears that the Astor 525 was rebranded and redesigned (albeit only slightly) to suit Pye manufacturing.  The FEU model code is in line with the Astor Australia model codes.

There are a few changes from the original design including the Pye made speaker and English I.F. cans. Visually, from the front, the only noticable difference is that the dial is reversed from the earlier 525, with the high end of the band on the left although the design and printing appears identical.

NOTE: If disassembling, be careful when removing the tuning dial - they are pressed on (not screwed) and they break easily.  Also don't try removing the gold spat in the middle, its purely decorative and won't provide any extra access.  Simply leave it in place while removing everything from the cabinet then if needed some pressure can be applied to the back of the sleeve over the tuning shaft to help push it off.
