• The RCA WV-98C Senior VoltOhmyst is an all electronic voltmeter designed to measure DC voltages, resistance, AC RMS values of sine waves, and AC peak-to-peak values of Complex waves. Voltages in all three categories may be measured up to 1500 volts with an accuracy of ±3% of full scale. Input resistance is 11 megohms on all DC ranges. AC input averages 1 megohm shunted by 60 pF and response is from 30 Hz to 3 Mhz.

  Seven voltage ranges are provided for AC RMS measurements, eight ranges are provided for DC voltage measurements, including a 0.50 volt range. Resistance values up to 1000 megohms, and AC peak-to-peak values up to 4200 volts may also be measured. The low .5 volt DC range was a change from the earlier Senior Voltohmyst series.

  All vesions had an 6.50 inch meter. Early manufactured units the meters were as depicted in the user manual: 1) the power on indicator is a neon lamp behind a hole surrounded by a red circle at the upper left 2) the RCA logo is the 'meatball' on the upper right 3) the low AC scales have red and black PP and RMS next to each other, and 4) the bottom script reads "Radio Corporation of America, Camden, N.J., USA".

  The next series changed to a mirrored meter with: 1) power on indicator the neon lamp protrudes in a plastic housing, 2) RCA logo unchanged, 3) the low AC scales group the red PP scales together and the black RMS scales together, 4) the bottom script is changed to read "Radio Corporation of America, Harrison, N.J., USA".  

  Still later versions then changed the logo upper right from the 'meatball' to large script 'RCA'. Coincident the two selector knobs were changed changed from smooth plastic color matched to the blue/grey paint to generic black plastic ribbed knobs. This last version then would have the "RCA" logo relaced by "VIZ" when RCA divested the instrument manufacture although there was no actual change in manufacture.

  ACCESSORIES INCLUDE:
  
  (a) WG-299D switchable DC, AC/ohms probe. This probe contains a 1 Megohm isolation resistor. The cable is shielded and terminates in a 'switchcraft microphone' style connector. Very late versions were supplied with the WG-299E probe. The only difference was the color changed to a light grey and the shielded cable changed from approximately 1/4" diameter to 1/8" diameter being more flexible. The probes are assembled with glue and not intended to be repaired. The probes have a spring loaded nose piece that functions to allow the optional WG-301A demodulator probe slide into place and attach to the grounded shield of the cable.

  (b) Model WG-301A Crystal Diode Probe. A demodulator RF probe it Increases AC frequency range from the basic 30 Hz - 3 Mhz to 50 KHz - 250 MHz. The WG-301A is designed to work with the WG-299 by sipping onto the center probe while radial fingers pull the WG-299 nose piece forward allowing connection to the grounded test lead shield.
  
  (c) Model WG-289 High Voltage Probe, less resistor. (Increases DC voltage range to 50000 volts); and,
  
  (d) Model WG-206 Multiplier Resistor for WG-289 Probe.
