  • Remarques
  • This model Silvertone 1670 was probably first available with only one tuned IF with 3 tuned circuits as "Early", schematic "A" in Rider's page 6-17 and probably facing difficulties with the second IF only being an untuned IF transformer. On page 6-18 can be found a schematic "B" as "Late" with a second tuned IF transformer with two tuned circuits for more selectivity. Most probably there was no other change and clients did not know a change. First production used a 58 oscillator, the "Late" a 224A oscillator. See the common pages 6-16 and 6-19. 3-gang tuning condenser, hum bucking coil on loudspeaker (together with the speaker field coil). The model 1650 is technically identical but uses only one tube 280, thus having 10 tubes.
Pre-War Consoles by Mark V. Stein brings a wrong picture on page 174, confusing with the Silvertone 1641.
The Sears Silvertone 1670 is a 11-tube Low-Boy console radio with 6 feet and a stretcher base. It offers only standard broadcast 175 to 550 meters which did bring in also some police calls. Double pentode output (parallel). 10-inch super dynamic speaker. Cabinet in high gloss walnut. The instrument panel is of richly mottled and figured walnut veneer and the front side panels are of sliced stripe walnut veneer. The overlay of the top front rail is blistered maple veneer.
Order number 57LM 1670 1/4 with tubes for $ 49.50 or for easy payment: $ 5 "down" cash and $ 5 per month until paid $ 54.50. See details and summaries about Sears catalogs etc.
