When I was attending the welcome party in Guangzhou for me on 2nd April 2010, I was faszinated by this radio model VAL 极典 R-801 of the Shenzhen VAL Technology Co. Ltd. in Shenzhen.

The "VAL" is a smaller radio manufacturer which sells also some special retro radios - and others.

Why my special interest? It sounded so good that I had to have a closed look. The main advantage is indeed the sound which is excellent. I heard that the company developped 6 years on it and is hoping to bring it to the market this year. At the moment it has 4 dynamic speakers and the audio frequency stages are fully realized with (8!) tubes. The power is necessary because modern loudspeakers have much loss if they are giving a top quality sound.

The company intends to sell the radio abroad. Maybe we then can try to get a xpecial arrangement to order it together to achieve a certain quantity. What i critisized is the two gang variable condenser for AM - but the company did not find any three gang tuning condenser and hand made would be far too expensive. They want to try to get some improvement in this area.

I don't know the market for tuning condensers - but if somebody has a source I would be glad to inform the company. You can reach me via contact form (see bottom link "Contact").
