  • This is the Degen DE13 DSP version of the DE13 original analog heterodyne version, showing some specification differences.

The DE13 model features FM/MW/SW1/SW2 RF bands, white flashlight, red flashing light, siren, cranked dynamo, solar power, integrated Ni-MH 2/3AA 320mAh 3.6V battery, and removable 2x1.5V AAA dry batteries.
The radio can be connected to a USB external 5V power supply to charge the Ni-MH battery.
The radio can also be used as a USB power supply to charge external low-power devices like MP3 players and alike.

    • Mono channel sound (this radio model uses mono amplification)

    Brief technical details

The radio is designed around the SiLabs Si4836A10 DSP Mechanical Tuning AM/FM/SW receiver (U3 in the PCB). Despite able to offer stereo sound, in this implementation it is configured to work in mono audio. As a DSP radio, it does soft muting when tuning between RF channels.

The output from Si4836A10  drives a Semico 4871 (LM4871 equiv.) Mono Bridge Audio Power Amplifier (U1), where the speaker is directly connected to the U1 outputs in bridge mode, and the mono audio earphone is connected thru a 220R resistor (R12).

The Si4836A10 is managed by a Shenzhen Jinrui Technology (CACHIP) CA69F108S1 69 series 8KB flash MCU (U5).

As user interface controls, and besides the mechanical slider switches,  VR1 controls the audio volume and VR2 controls the digital tuning to the DSP chip.

Additional components are used for power management and control, namely a 6625 3-pin SMD (U2), a M4UK 5-pin SMD (U4), a 1117 (LM1117 equiv.) 3-pin SMD (U6), a J6 S9014 NPN (Q1), a J8 S9018 NPN (Q2), and quite a number of power diodes as well (some of them to convert the 3-phase AC output voltage coming from the cranked dynamo).
