The Sony ICB‑880T is an eight‑channel 27 MHz handheld CB transceiver from Sony’s late domestic CB series and represents the generation immediately preceding the ICB‑88H and ICB‑87 models. It provides the standard 500 mW AM output permitted under Japanese regulations and is fitted with a telescopic whip antenna. The set uses a PLL‑synthesised channel system and includes a scan function, distinguishing it from earlier crystal‑controlled Sony handhelds such as the ICB‑800. The model appears in Sony’s 1984 transceiver catalogue, confirming it was in production at that time. The cabinet follows the late‑era Sony design language with a tall form factor, a large front‑facing loudspeaker, and a blue and silver control panel incorporating the channel selector, tuning controls, and status indicators. A side‑mounted rotary switch provides the POWER, OFF, ON and STAND BY positions, a layout typical of Sony’s portable transceivers of the period. The radio operates from internal dry cells, typically eight AA batteries, and was sold for domestic Japanese use only.
The radio operates on the Japanese eight‑channel CB allocation with transmit and receive frequencies:
- Ch1 — 26.968 MHz
- Ch2 — 26.976 MHz
- Ch3 — 27.040 MHz
- Ch4 — 27.080 MHz
- Ch5 — 27.088 MHz
- Ch6 — 27.112 MHz
- Ch7 — 27.120 MHz
- Ch8 — 27.144 MHz
