Tonna "Part No. 20309" is a 9-element Yagi antenna for the 144/148 MHz amateur radio band that is variously described as the "Pro XL" or "Pro XL 144/18L" model. (18L refers to the fact that it has an effective electrical length of about 1.8 wavelengths). The antenna is claimed to have an isotropic gain of 13.2 dBi at 144.3 MHz, and other specifications are as follows:
Aperture angle at -3 dB at 144.3 MHz: E plane 2 x 20.6˚, H plane 2 x 23.2˚
First side lobe set at 144.3 MHz: E plane -20 dB at 55˚, H plane -14 dB at 60˚
Rear protection at 144.3 MHz: -21 dB
Stray radiation at 144.3 MHz: E plane -30 dB, H plane -24 dB
Gain bandwidth at -1 dB: 141 through 149 MHz
Nominal impedance: 50 Ω. Type N male connector (UG21B/U) on the feed coax
Match bandwidth at SWR ≤ 1.25/1: 143 through 148 MHz
Maximum RF power (SSB/CW, peak): 1000 WOverall length: 3.85 m
Mass: 3.5 kg
Effective wind area: Horizontal polarisation 0.12 m2, Vertical polarisation 0.24 m2
Resulting wind load at 90 km/h: Horizontal polarisation 4.6 daN, Vertical polarisation 9.2 daN
Wind load at 160 km/h: Horizontal polarisation 14.8 daN, Vertical polarisation 29.6 daN
Two-section boom: Aluminium alloy 3005, 25 x 25 x1.2 mm square pipe
Elements: Aluminium alloy 5049, 10 mm diameter tubing
Assembly hardware and accessories: Mazak, galvanised and stainless steelThe antenna should be assembled with the elements above the boom and the driven element under the boom, so that the moisture drain hole located on the lower point of the case faces the ground. The clamp, which also unites the two sections of the boom, accepts mast diameters from 40 to 80 mm. When not in use, the antenna should be kept pointing in the direction of the prevailing wind.
