  • Notes
  • The Venner Electronics TSA3436 is a fully transistorised general‑purpose counter‑timer designed for laboratory, industrial, and electronic service‑departments in the early 1960s. It provides frequency measurement up to 1.2 Mc/s and time‑interval measurement from 1 µs to 100 000 s, using a 6‑digit in‑line numerical display for direct readout.

    Core Architecture and Frequency Standard
At the heart of the instrument is an oven‑controlled crystal oscillator built around the Cathodeon MCO‑2M crystal oven, giving a stability of ±1 × 10⁻⁶. This temperature‑regulated reference defines all gating and counting operations. Frequency‑measurement accuracy is specified as ±1 count plus crystal stability, consistent with Venner’s transistorised decade‑counter design philosophy.

    Input Facilities
Two selectable input modes accommodate a wide range of signal sources:

    • A.C. input: 70 kΩ // 25 pF, accepting 100 mV to 50 V r.m.s.
    • D.C. input: 1 kΩ // 500 pF, accepting 1–50 V peak.

Three gate times—0.1 s, 1 s, and 10 s—allow the user to balance resolution against measurement speed. For external gating, the counter requires positive‑going pulses of 5–10 V, with rise times not exceeding 0.2 µs and pulse widths of at least 0.5 µs.

    Construction, Power, and Physical Data
The TSA3436 is housed in a compact metal case measuring 14½ × 3⅝ × 10½ in and weighing approximately 13 lb. It operates from 100–125 V or 200–250 V, 40–60 c/s and can also be powered from a 12 V d.c. source for mobile or field use.

See the 4 digit version TSA3334.
