  • Anotaciones
  • Member John Goller has reported an error in the Zenith schematics for Chassis 5808 covering models 8S443, 8S451, and 8S463.  The same error is found in Chassis 1005 covering models 10S443, 10S452, 10S464, 10S470, 10S491, and 10S492, and in Chassis 1103 for model 11S474.

This error is in the Wavemagnet Antenna circuit. The Wavemagnet antenna for the above model does not have a "Wavemagnet or External" antenna switch on the antenna.  It does have a Local Distance switch which grounds a 10K resistor to the cathode of the 1232 RF amp tube for distance position.  The other leads from the Wavemagnet to into the radio chassis also have errors.  These errors appear to have originated in the Zenith Service Manuals and have been carried forward in the Riders and Beitman schematics.

John Goller has prepared a revised schematic that shows the correct Wavemagnet Antenna circuit wiring along with the correct antenna plug pin connections.  This schematic is included in the model file.

I'm aligning my 8S463 and I ran into an issue during the alignment. I followed the alignment instructions and I connected the generator to the grid of the 6A8G converter and I was able to align all of the sections ABCD, etc.

My problem is, The alignment seems to be on target, but when going to the standard band, and trying to pick up radio signals, I recieve them, but they're full of static, or muffled. I added a bluetooth module to the audio section, and the audio I stream send into the radio is fine. I think the problem is 1232 RF area.

I'm going to double check my wiring tomorrow, but the schematic shows the switches in the "police" position. I have Auto, STD, short wave, and medium wave. Is it safe to assume that the medium wave is "police"?

The antenna switch on the schematic shows it's in the wavemagnet position, but I don't have a wavemagnet switch on my radio or wavemagnet itself.  I have a 5 pin wavemegnet connector witht he center pin being ground.  Should I just ignore it?

Thanks

I'm working on a 8S463 with a 5808 chassis. I recaped the chassis, and it powers up, and I alignment, but I'm getting a hum in the audio.

I looked at the schematic and I see the voltage levels on the schematics. I have the line voltage set to 112V, but none of the voltages line up with the schematics. My transformer output voltage is about 20% higher than they're shown on the schematic.

I'm pulling my hair out, any ideas?
