My name is Kasper Bergholt.
I use, collect, archive and photograph vacuum tubes (valves, in British English). My interests include driver-stage tubes such as the 6CS7, 12AU7A and 12HB7A; the 6CJ3 family of damper tubes; the 6X5GT and 5U3C rectifiers; and the 5881/6L6/6L6G and EL34 families of output tubes. So far, I haven't ventured into 300B or single-ended triode designs.
As the satisfied owner of a Leben CS-600 tube amplifier and a Leben RS-30EQ RIAA phono stage, I'm naturally most interested, for now, in the tubes used in these products.
Besides photographing and documenting tubes on this site, I maintain high-resolution archives for free, non-commercial use on Pbase and Wikipedia. Some of these images are also added to Wikimedia Commons for free use, and I contribute photos for tubes whose listings lack an image. I shoot with vintage Nikon and Zeiss gear.
My other interests include Tai Chi, gastronomy, Pu-erh tea and listening to music. I'm currently especially drawn to Japanese recordings across a variety of artists and genres, most of them of sublime quality, which I play through a Goldring cartridge and the Leben RS-30EQ. I also create photography-based art featuring vacuum tubes, most prominently in my Objects for an Ideal Home series, and I read, write about and curate art.
Recently, I've been working on archiving and describing texts and artifacts from the pre-web era of Danish BBS culture.
