Wie alles begann: Als Kind spitzte ich heimlich durch die Rückwandlöcher unseres Graetz-Radios und fand zu meiner großen Enttäuschung doch keine musizierenden Zwerglein darin vor. Jetzt war eine unendliche Neugier geboren: Wie kommt die Musik da rein? Doch mit der Zeit konnte ich Schritt für Schritt die Geheimnisse lüften. Der verbotene Schuttplatz der Amerikanischen Streitkräfte und ausrangierte Röhrenradios waren meine Hauptmaterialquelle für erste Experimente: Haustelefon, Mittelwellenradio usw. Statt mit unerschwinglich teuren Transistoren, bastelte ich eben mit Röhren, um eigene Radios und Kleinsender zu bauen. Mit 17 erhielt ich dann eine Amatuerfunklizenz, später folgte ein Studium der HF-Technik mit Promotion – bis wohl das letzte Geheimnis der Funktechnik gelüftet war. Doch jetzt gibt es wieder neue Geheimnisse: Alte Radios vom Flohmarkt! Längst keine Materialquelle mehr sondern kostbare individuelle Zeugen einer veralteten Technologie, wo man zur Restauration und Reparatur detektivisch rekonstruieren muss, welche Röhren da wohl drin gewesen sein könnten, weil man den Aufdruck nicht mehr lesen kann... Das Schöne dabei ist, dass man Radios aus dieser Zeit praktisch immer reparieren kann – was für solche der Jetztzeit nur selten zutrifft. Es ist jedesmal eine wunderbare Belohnung, wenn man den oft jahrelang verstummten Geräten schließlich wieder die ersten Töne entlocken kann.
