Die 6AF7A ist vermutlich eine kommerziell hergestellte Ersatzröhre für die 6AF7G und ist vermutlich durch Umsockeln von Röhren des Typs 6E5 entstanden.
Sie hat neben dem Leuchtsystem, welches nur einen Steuersteg aufweist auch nur ein Triodensystem zur Ansteuerung des Steuerstegs. Die "echte" 6AF7G hingegen hat 2 Steuerstege und 2 Triodensysteme zu deren Ansteuerung.
