The valve AV44 was made by Amalgamated Wireless Valve Co Pty, Australia. Brand is "AWV Super RADIOTRON". The AV44 is a tungsten filament control diode for regulated power supplies. Max. DC anode voltage is 250 volts and max. filament voltage is 2.5 volts with filament current of 800 mA. Typical operation of the AV44 is filament 2.5 volts and anode voltage 100 volts resulting in 0.1 mA anode current and 720 mA filament current. The AV44 incorporates a built-in switch which shorts the anode and filament connection should the filament break. See the spring in the top of the tube / valve. The anode (Pin 5) current does not vary much with change in anode voltage but does vary very much with changes in filament voltage.
