Description

UHF mixer diode, designed to be used in balanced or coaxial lines up to over than 3GHz (9 cm). 0.05mm anode to cathode spacing.
Available since 1942.

Vacuum diodes and triodes were experimented as mixers in the receivers of the early 10-cm radar sets. Silicon diodes were easily burnt by the high-power pulses of magnetron transmitters, while vacuum devices were capable to withstand energy of RF pulses. Unfortunately they were too noisy and never came out of the experimental stage.
