Single-cavity interdigital magnetron. Twelve segments form the internal side of the anode doughnut resonating cavity. Dr. Lüdi at BBC designed this structure to operate as RF power source in microwave multi-channel communication relays. Due to the presence of the high Q single cavity integrated with the segments, this anode design granted the very high spectrum purity required, otherwise not possible with multi-cavity structures. The two side walls of the cavity were connected to the external line. For FM modulation, tuning of anode resonating system was achieved connecting a reactance tube, even a split anode magnetron could operate as such, to the external line.
