Beschreibung

Copper-glass transmitting triode, used as pulsed oscillator in radar applications. Copper anode, side connections to grid; thoriated-tungsten filament.

Two tubes gave 30 kW pulses at 200 MHz.

Tubes were the exact copy of the GEC VT98 and some samples carried the double marking REL5 / VT98. The main difference was in the finned anode radiator instead of the drilled block of the British predecessor Made in Canada by Westinghouse for the CHL radar system built at REL and installed to control the Panama Channel.

Also made by US Westinghouse as WL-533.

The sample in the photos shows the double marking REL-5 / CV98, which means that the two types were exactly equivalent. The filament data given by Sibley, 12,6V at 58A are then wrong, probably referred to the old CV58 fitted with pure tungsten filament.
