Zu dieser Röhre habe ich folgenden Text von einem Sammler erhalten:

Volkslamp
Utrecht

From this brand are two things certain:
  1. There are al least 5 types, 1823, AZ1, 80, 80 S and 5Z3; all double wave rectifiers. Possibly there were more types.
  2. These types are listed in the Catalogue 11 from June 1941 and in the Catalogue 1943 from Radio Groeneveld in Amsterdam.
Radio Groeneveld was a supplier, not a manufacturer, so the tubes must be made elsewhere.
A company with the name ,,Volkslamp” in Utrecht is not found by me in the Camber of Commerce in Utrecht.
A special detail in the Catalogue 1943 is that one has to return an old base to be able to buy a new Volkslamp (see catalogue numbers 173, 174 en 175). Possibly there was a shortage of bases during WWII. This reason and this matters shows up in the story of Mr. J. Reulen in ,, Radio Historisch Tijdschrift 3/1998”.

The article of Mr. J. Reulen in ,, Radio Historisch Tijdschrift 3/1998”.
The company A. Jacobse bought type 80’s in Antwerpen, Belgium (went by bus) and rebased them. Depending on the base, you got a certain type. There is not much difference between the listed types, electrically.
At the time, American types were “illegal” in Holland because of an agreement between Philips and RCA to share patents. Part of the agreement was, that RCA and Philips had there own territory for sales and Holland was Philips territory. But American types were available in Belgium and France.
This story could well be true.
My hesitations comes from the fact that “ Volkslamp” is of an inferior quality, which I never have seen by American 80’s.

The firm A. Jacobse Voorstraat 72 in Utrecht.
We can find this firm:
  1. In the ,,Radioboek voor den Handel” by Ing. J Schriere from 1926 as a supplier of ESRI radios.
  2. A. Jacobse. He advertised in 1937 American tubes, while these were “ illegal” here in Holland.
  3. As “Radio Technisch Bureau ESRI” in 1938 and 1939, which also supplied American tubes.
 Conclusion
Most likely is Mr. Reulen right and has Jacobse rebased types 80 and converted them into Volkslamps like type 1823, AZ1 etc. A test with a type 80 (filament voltage 5 V) shows that the 80 can replace an AZ1 (with a filament voltage of 4 V).
There is nevertheless a possibility that the “Volkslamp” was made in Utrecht. No one really knows.
