Description

The contract went out to all the tube manufacturers with specifications for a "VT-1". Western Electric and GE both provide samples of tubes that meet that spec, though they were very different in appearance and construction. The contract was awarded to Western Electric, so GE quickly added another "1" to the end of the number, thus producing the VT-11.
