History:

Carl Albert Unbehaun (1851- 1924) and Edward Astley Johnstone (- 1954) founded Unbehaun & Johnstone in South Australia in 1897. [1]

In September 1904 they set up Unbehaun & Johnstone (WA) Ltd. as electrical contractors, also selling electrical products, telephones and lamps. [2]

They began selling radio parts and radios and named there new premises at 283 Murray Street, Radio House in February 1924. [3] As well as electrical products and lamps they sold Philips valves and imported Western Electric radios.

Mr John Wishaw left the Wireless Supplies Company in 1930 and joined Unbehaun & Johnstone and started designing and manufacturing radios for country towns in Western Australia that used 200 to 220 volts DC for mains power. They advertised these radios as “Radio’s Latest – the Air King”. [4]

In the 1932 Radio & Electrical Exhibition the company displayed Tasma and Air King Radios. [5]

They continued selling Philips, Tasma and Air King Receivers until the company was liquidated in January 1937. [6]
