Products: Model types
Summary:

Globe Electric Co. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin was founded in 1911 by G. W. Youngs, D. Decker and J.J. Gugler. In the early 1920s (some say in 1922) they started to fabricate battery radios - after they made other electrical equipment and automotive batteries. They were at 14-28 Keefe Avenue.

In the August 1926, McGraw-Hill Radio Trade Catalog on page 211 the Globe Electric Company was located at 14 Keefe Avenue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Founded: 1911
Production: 1922 - 1925
History:

According to Dale Boyce, the 1985 Johnson Controls publication “Right for the Times 100th Anniversary” notes “In 1925, Globe stopped making radio sets, and with the acquisition of Central Radio Laboratories, turned to the manufacture of radio components”.

Alan Douglas sent us the following printed text from "Radio Retailer & Jobber", March 1926:
"Globe Low Loss Tuners and 3-tube set are original:

The Globe Low Loss Tuners have been tested, approved and played up, in featured stories of commendation, by every radio magazine, and by almost every newspaper in the United States with Radio Section ... The original Globe coils were patented December 9, 1924, and frequent have been the infringements thereof, but all have been stopped to date.

The Globe Low Loss Tuner Tree-Tube Set, of the Broadcast Type, is another product of the Globe Radio Equipment Co., which operates a factory at 217 West 125th Street, New York City, and a sales and export division at 261 Broadway, in that same metropolis; while the Pacific Coast Representative of this Globe Co. is the Factory Sales Agencies Co., with headquarters at 603 Mission St., San Francisco, California. ..."

In 1929 Globe Electric merged with Union Battery and became Globe-Union Inc. Their primary product line was automotive batteries. In 1978 Globe-Union was acquired by Johnson Controls. Johnson Controls continues to be a major researcher, manufacturer and supplier of automotive and specialty batteries.
