Name: Sobell Ind., Slough    (GB)
Abbreviation: sobell
Summary:

Sobell Industries Ltd., Slough, Buckinghamshire;

History:
Founded by Michael Sobell, the Company was registered January 1946 (b.1892 d.1993). His family owned factories in the Austro-Hungarian empire and oil interests at Limburg in Germany, but his parents moved to England about 1899 to escape antisemitism.
His daughter Netta married Arnold Weinstock who joined the Sobell Company in 1954.
In 1961, Sobell's company merged (some source claim "took over") with The General Electric Company plc (GEC) which dates from 1886. The Sobell family became major GEC shareholders.
Weinstock is best known for building GEC, a major conglomerate, which at the time of his retirement had become one of the UK's largest companies. See also Gracesguide co uk and Wikipedia
Before GEC took over Sobell for £8M, Sobell's Radio & Allied Industries had taken over McMichael. During the 1950s EMI actually owned the Sobell Trademark, with Michael Sobell thus forming Radio & Allied Industries & Banner TV which paid EMI royalty for the use.

This manufacturer was suggested by Konrad Birkner † 12.08.2014.
