Name: ST Valve, S.T. Limited, John Scott-Taggart; London    (GB)
Brand:
ST = Scott-Taggart
Abbreviation: st-valve
Products: Model types Tube manufacturer
Summary:

S.T. Limited
2 Melbourne Place, London W.C.2 (1926)

John Scott-Taggart (born 1897, deceased 1979) was a British radio engineer. As editor of "The Wireless World", "The Wireless Constructor" and other publications, he issued a number of construction envelopes for amateur use, some of which were offered as kit by different manufacturers.

He was the author of many books and articles about valve / tube construction and research, and held a number of patents in the field.

Scott-Taggart also offered a range of valves/tubes branded ST (perhaps made by Mullard). Advertising emphasised that they were invidually tested and approved and until January 27th, 1927, a certificate was issued personally signed by Scott-Taggart. After this, a rubber stamp was used as the high number of sales did not further permit manual signing.

Founded: 1926
History:

The 1925 Who's Who in Wireless Telegraphy has the following entry about Scott-Taggert:

"Scott-Taggart, John. Educ. Bolton Grammar School, technical establishments and King's College, London.
For four years was Departmental Manager and Research Engineer, Radio Communication Company, Ltd.
Managing Director of Radio Press, Ltd., and Editor of Modern Wireless and of Wireless Weekly.
Some time in charge of valve design and construction at Ediswan Lamp Works.
Served 1914 to 1919: sometime Instructor of Wireless to 1st Army, but chiefly Wireless Officer to various units. Mentioned in despatches. Awarded Military Cross.
Author of various papers before British Association and other societies, and numerous articles: also the volumes: "Thermionic Tubes in Radio Telegraphy and Telephony," "Elementary Text-book in Wireless Vacuum Tubes, "Wireless Valves Simply Explained," "Practical Wireless Valve Circuits," etc., etc.
Fellow of the Institute of Physics and holds membership in the Physical Society and the British, American and French Institutions of Electrical Engineers.
Address: Bush House, Aldwych, London, W.C.2."

According to Tyne's "Saga of the Vacuum Tube" pp.395, Scott-Taggert formed his own company S.T. Co. Limited in 1926.

The company was dissolved on February 19th, 1965. No tubes had been available from it since the late 1920's.

This manufacturer was suggested by Konrad Birkner † 12.08.2014.
