Hi dear radiofriends,

I have one philips radio with 2 labels.

The label B4X36A/35 is visibel from outside, and B4LN46A is not visibel.

None is in RM, but the tube line up and the dimensions and the other characteristic is the same of the B4LN36A.

My question is:

Shoudl I open the 2 new models with the same characteristics or not ?

Thanks

Carlos

Hi Carlos

Usualy BX means Benelux (Holland Belgic or Luxemburg). BLN usualy means that it was made in  Philips-Portugal . Those two models have the same circuit but we find some  differences.Has your radio a dial-glass written in portuguese language? I mean, are the portuguese main stations there?

Mário

Hi Mário,

Thanks for the replay. Yes, the dial-glass is in portuguese language.

I think that radio was made in Nederlands, and in Portugal  only change the dial-glass and put a new (another) label.

I agree with you. It might have been made in Louvein- Holland (PL) to be exported to Portugal.

I think this is a rare set. Usualy they are  BX or BLN, not both.

Maybe you can upload as Holland´s (export Model).

Regards

Mario

erratum: Louvein-Holland must be read Leuven-Belgium ; Holland's must be read Belgium's

This set was made in Belgium (Philips Leuven), and relabeled for export to Portugal. Year is 1964.

See Philips B3X36A for a schematic diagram.

In my opinion, the question is still open if the model should be registered as B4LN46A, and under which manufacturer (though I favor Philips Belgium). It's also unclear if it should be a new model, or a variant of the B4X36A.

I am not sure if we have a precedent for this case. My personal favorite would be a variant of B4X36A under Belgium. What do the others think?

By the way, we still don't have the B4X36A not B4X36A/35 documented, so that needed creating as well.

Best regards,
Mark

? Two new models ?

Many thanks John, and Mark.

I think Philips made this model  B4X36A for export ( not only for Portugal).

Portuguese Philips  relabeled, change the dial scale and "creat" a Portuguese model, B4LN46A.

The problem was: Someone forgot the original label in the radio.

In my opinion, the original model is the B4X36A.

The B4LN46A is a Portuguese model.

What do you think?

 Hello

Today in a lunch meeting with Jose Duarte, he remembered me that one of the characteristics which make some Portuguese radios different from almost European radios is the Maritime band.

In fact Carlos's set has a 75-185m band (4-1,62Mc).

I don't know which bands have B4X36A in its  schematic because it is not yet available here, but B3X36A doesn't have this Maritime band.

I presume that this model is similar to B4X36A, as almost of BLN sets are to BX sets, but as the some other BLN models have,  this one has a different circuit and a different dial-glass made only for Portuguese market.

Regards

Mario

Maritime Band (Onda maritima) was a very useful band for Portuguese families to listen messages from codfish fleets crews fishing in North Canada's seas.
