  • AIRZONE Releases New Six (Trade release, Radio & Electrical Merchant, 14/9/1934, Page 18).

On Monday this week a new six valve receiver wwas released by Airzone to known as Model 625 with chassis type 602.

    Feature of this release are:-

High sensitivity perrmitting long distance daylight reception.

    Full delayed A.V.C.

Adequate selectivity for any condition likely to be experienced.

Magnavox 10 in. dynamic speaker, Model 152-D.

Details made by available by the manufacturers of Model 625, are as follows: 1 - 6D6 operating as an R.F. amplifier, is followed by a 6A7 Pentagrid Converter. One stage of I.F. amplification at 175 K.C. (6D6). The functions of double diode detector and triode audio amplifier are performed by an 85 feeding a 42 pentode output. The rectifier is a type 80.

Judging from the figures available, it would appear that this receiver will be eminently suitable for both city and country use.

The sensitivity is of a particularly high order, actually 1.2 microvolts, throughout the wave band of 200 to 500 metres, which is ample to allow of long distance reception in country districts.

The manufacturers advise that they have collaborated with the Magnavox Company in regard to the audio reproduction, and have adopted the special 10 inch dynamic model type 152D. The inclusion of this speaker, together wioth a carefully designed audio system, results in reproduction which is very pleasing.

Extra smoothing included in the "B" supply circuit has rendered hum almost inaudible.

A new type of tone control is fitted which allows the tone balance to be adjusted to the individual user's liking. This model is also fitted with a special switching arrangement which constitutes a noise suppressor. A tuning meter to facilitate accurate tuning is also a standard fitting. With regard to the dial - to quote from the Airzone pamphlet - "Our new dial is more or less an answer to the aeroplane pattern, which has been accepted in a great many instances, although, as it is usual with such new devices, it has been copied by all and sundry - the result being that even the cheapest of sets are fitted with a aeroplane dial of very small construction, and in most cases with a very stiff movement. We are still maintaining our cord drive with its resultant smooth action."
