  • AWA Communications Receiver CR-3D (Type 3C919150) is a versatile 14-Valve superheterodyne receiver which has a continuous frequency coverage from 14kHz to 30.1MHz in 12 bands. The receiver may be crystal controlled on six spot frequencies.

The receiver is capable of receiving type A1, A2 and A3 emissions on all ranges.

    Intermediate Frequency:  1. Bands 2 & 3 (100kHz to 630kHz) is 85kHz   2. On remaining bands the receiver is double conversion type  Ist IF - 585kHz, 2ndIF - 85kHz.

    Sensitivity:    14 to 50kHz - 30uV

    50 to 110kHz - 10uV

    110 to 240kHz - 5uV

    240kHz - 4MHz - 3uV

    4MHz - 30.1MHz - 1uV

    All for 3dB signal/noise ratio

Power Converter: The power requirements of the receiver are met by a seperate Power Converter Type 2H95152 which utilises two valves (Types 5Y3G & OC3/VR105). The Power Converter case also incorporates a monitor speaker.

These HF Communications Receivers were used by the Australian Overseas Telecommunication Commission (OTC) at Coast Radio Stations around Australia from 1957 through to the mid 1980's. as general HF and MF Working receivers for marine radio services. A variation on the CR-3D was the CR-3E which only covered the MF band (250kHz to 630kHz).

When used on-board ships these receivers were known as ARGOSY receivers.
