  • Anotaciones
  • Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) introduced the Flip-Chip range of electronics modules in 1964, and by 1968 over 150 different types were available in 6 different series. Prices ranged from $9.50 for an R200 2-transistor 2 MHz flip-flop to $750 for an A801 10-bit ADC and $2000 for an H201 4096 x 13 bit core memory. In addition to supplying these modules to customers for building their own digital systems, DEC used them in the company's early computers, such as the milestone PDP-8 minicomputer.

The example Flip-Chip module shown here is a W602 bipolar level amplifier (later described as a bipolar output converter). It is part of the W series, which provided input/output interfacing between Flip-Chip modules and other digital devices. The W602 contains three inverting amplifiers with bipolar outputs for applications such as driving EIA standard communication lines. Clamp voltage sources on the card allow the upper and lower output levels for all 3 amplifiers to be set to -6v, -3v, 0v, +3v or +6v. The maximum output current from each circuit is +-15 mA, and the outputs can withstand momentary short circuits to ground.

    Semiconductor complement:
    6 2N3638 transistors
    6 2N3009 transistors
    9 1N3606 diodes
    16 1N645 diodes

    Power supplies +10v 32 mA, -15v 31 mA.
