Notes Model 59C is a low cost 4-tube compact upright table radio, often referred to as a "pee-wee" or "cigar box" design because of its compactness. It is a continuation of a series of similar 4-tube models with different styles of compact cabinets, which included the 53C (1933), the 57C (1933), the 58C (1934). These 4-tube designs use regeneration in the IF amplifier to improve sensitivity. There are four versions of model 59: model 59C (early version, 1934) with vertical bars through the speaker opening and a photofinish front panel with faux inlay and burl patterns, model 59C (late version, 1935) with a wooden front and a wave pattern at the top of the speaker opening, model 59S (early version, 1934-35) with an "owl" pattern on the front panel, and model 59S (late version, 1935) with a spoked arch speaker opening.
