3-speed record player using a Colarado deck. A latching switch is operated by the pickup arm to turn the motor on (pull back away from platter), or off (move to centre of platter).
Built-in frame aerial with sockets for external aerial and earth. On gramophone the triode section of the ECH42 operates as an amplifier stage
between the crystal pick-up and the output stage because it's a 'Short Superhet', no audio preamp in radio mode. The stylus was some kind of compromise type for 78 vs 33/45 type pressings, it did not have a dual stylus. The stylus arm is a push fit into a very small rectangular metal holder on the pickup cartridge.
The lid has storage for discs and a holder for an RCA 45 adapator / hub.
Differences in Production:
The R&TVS shows an R11, value 470K between C17 and C16, also R3 22K, the EBF80 g2 and ECH42 sg supply, decoupled by 100nF C5. R3 may be 15K on some models and C16 & C17 replaced by a single AGC capacitor. The Cathode of EBF80 is shown connected to chassis (0V), on some models it's via 470 Ohms in parallel with 100nF. The C26 20nF capacitor is connected to the EL41 anode, not HT as the tone switch connects to chassis (0V) rather than the anode, thus the tone circuit is parallel with C27 5nF.
There is only aerial coil matching on LW (L1), no separate Local Oscillator coil or trimming capacitors. The LW thus depends on MW alignment and the accuracy of C12 560pF for the oscillator. L1 is the central of the three adjustable coils. The L.O. coil access hole is under the turntable platter. L1 and L2 are accessible via pop-out blanking plugs beside the platter. The tuning has concentric gearing.
UK Price (excluding Purchase Tax) was £20 11s 10d, about 20.59 GBP, or accounting for inflation since 1950, about €745 excluding VAT in 2018.
